Who We Are

One Small Change is a small business run out of our home studio in Papamoa, New Zealand. We are small but what we are trying to do is big.

The idea to create One Small Change came about because during our low waste journey we struggled to find well designed and made hankies that we would be proud to pull out in public. Every time one of us decided to implement another low waste idea into our home we considered that one small change to add up to something bigger. When I started making hankies for our family and stopped buying and using bought tissues, primarily made from trees it felt like another step in the right direction.

At first we weren't overly concerned about where the fabric was sourced due to them mainly being for personal use but later started being more and more interested in its story. We are now at a point where we are hunting, digging, trying to uncover the perfect fabric, made the in most sustainable and ethical way. This in itself is a process and not something that will happen overnight. Our aim is to be as transparent as possible with regards to our choice of materials so you can be satisfied with what you are bringing into your home.

As our business grows so does our range. Some products have very practical uses such as our hankies or our reusable bin liners whereas our rope bowls are more decorative. They were originally made as a way to store our hankies in our kitchen so our children could easily grab a hanky for their runny noses. From there we found endless uses for them from covering our indoor pot plants to being a soft gentle place to keep our fruit.

What connects everything we make is the consideration we have for its impact on our home, health and environment.
